Thailand Confirms Its First Case of New, Deadlier Mpox Version

Health officials in Thailand confirmed a case of the mpox variant that caused a global health emergency. This is the second time the more deadly variant has been found outside Africa. Concerns about the virus spreading have increased after recent cases in Sweden and the concentration of the outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Clade Ib variant has a higher death rate of 3% compared to the previous Clade IIb variant. The spread of the earlier outbreak was curbed through behavioral changes and vaccinations.
